Headwaters of the Sugar Creek       (Back)        (Next)

The headwaters of the Sugar Creek watershed (~71 km2) are located in the glaciated Erie Ontario Lake Plain Eco-Region, and are characterized by rolling hills and valleys.

Three separate headwaters areas have been identified.

More than 70% of the basin is devoted to agricultural uses including dairy, beef and poultry confined feeding operations, row crops and forage production.

Approximately 10% of the headwaters are developed as industry or residential areas, and there is one municipal wastewater treatment plant at Smithville.
